SNOW OR NOT SNOW THAT IS THE QUESTION

The month started off cold and chilly and everyone was wondering while others were hoping that with the treat of snow would we get some, a few flurries here and there and then one morning we all woke up to a lovely white carpet, and so the children in us took over as the picture shows the staff went out to play while the residents played the sensible option and stayed in the warm.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

Linda celebrated her birthday at the end of the month and celebrated it in style with a traditional day long sing a long with all her favourites being repeated several times, the day before she went out for a slap up meal at the Cherry Tree in Torquay and on her special day after the sing song she had a special tea with one of Georgina triple chocolate cakes.

PASS

Everyone was on tender hooks in the middle of the month, looking at the sky was it going to rain or was it going to snow everyone started to pray, the reason was Katarina was taking her driving test, it all worked as she passed.

GOOD OLD FAVOURITES

A new year and a new entertainment program where there could be several new people visiting to provide entertainment but there will be one thing that does not change and that’s Stuart with his accordion, he has been entertaining us for a couple of years and everyone loves him, he started the season of with a good old sing song and knees up.

          WELL DONE

Congratulations go to Jane who has been doing work experience at the home and to Edwina who with Jane’s assistance both passed a distance course on Caring for People with Dementia

FUND RAISING

This is going slowly but steady, we are at the moment mid way through the “hunt the meal voucher” this is worth £50 and is for Bianco’s Italian Restaurant in Torquay.

The Silent auction for  a weeks stay in a luxury apartment on the Costa del Sol was won by Chloe Mowsom from the local Learning Disabilities team.

The tandem parachute jump has been moved from the 6^th to the 20^th of June due to the jumpers Captain Elizabeth Winchester commitments.

HELP US BEAT OUR RECORD

MARCH BIRTHDAY'S

The month of March see’s a very special birthday, Kimberley walked in to Ashdown OK OK was carried when she was 5 days old and for the last 18 years lived within the building complex,  Kimberley has watch as clients and staff have come and gone, remembered each one and over the last few years worked as a helper and now between February and September she will be helping in the office until she returns to college.

During this time on the 27^th everyone at the home staff and residents alike will be celebrating her 18^th birthday. If you would like to send your congratulations to her for this joyous event then either a card or an e-mail to kim@ashdowncarehome.co.uk

MEET THE STAFF

This month meet the staff focuses on Chris, back in the month of January we were looking at replacing the cleaners / support worker post with either one or two staff. Last time we advertised we had 1 applicant in 3 weeks but this time we only put the advert for 1 week, did we get 1 applicant no in all we had 35 so we had a choice. Why did we choice him, the management seem to think it was his frankness, he admitted he had several jobs yet he found himself drawn always to helping people, well if early indications prove right he could have found his niche. Chris is happy and laughing all the time loves taking people out and about or playing dominoes and snooker, in his spare time he likes to work out on his turn tables where he is better known as DJ Speedie (find him on utube). Always willing and wanting to learn that's what we like. Now he owes £5 as he promised if his meet the staff was nice he would give it to the fund raising.
