TO YOU ALL

The management, staff and residents of the home would like to wish all it's readers a Happy New Year and also a Happy Chinese New Year, we are now in the year of the OX. So if you were born in the years 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985 and 1997 you are also Ox. Ox are Steady, Hot Headed and Stubborn, The Ox more often than not are hard workers striving for power, however, this is straddled by hesitation in decision making.

LOOKING FORWARD

After all the hype of Christmas the lull of the new year is with us, the weather does not help much but everyone tried to make as much joviality, there has been a great deal of planning for the coming year from the fund raising to entertainment and the party in September all and more have been discussed.

GREAT BIRTHDAY

On the 22nd Stuart celebrated his birthday in style, firstly after opening all his cards and presents he went to the Cockhaven Manor with his girlfriend for a slap up meal and a pint or 3. On his return he went to the White House next door to listen to some music and a good old sing song then it was back to the home for a birthday tea with the high point being one of Georgina’s legendry Birthday Cakes.

NEW STAFF

We needed to fill our vacancies so it was decided to put an advert in the local paper, the last time we advertised we had 1 applicant this time there was 35 and even after we had appointed we received 6 more, so we welcome Sarah and Chris to our happy fold.

COMMITMENT TO TRAINING

The home realises the need for training and although there is no substitute for some of the 1 or 3 day courses, we were very happy when we were contacted by Redcrier Training the home soon discovered that they had a range of courses that would complement our own in house training. They continually update the information when legislation or procedures change and introduce new course from time to time, all staff at the home from the manager to the Saturday and Sunday Kitchen Helpers undertake these courses. These courses are very helpful to staff who are undertaking NVQ’s and they can be cross referenced with units to provide evidence.

          WELL DONE

Well done to Jade for passing her Key Skills and her Technical Certificate

Well done Katarina for passing her POVA Protection of Vulnerable Adults

WITH A TWIST

Every year the Teign Area Club arrange for clients from around the area to watch one of the local pantomimes and this year there was a twist to the normal no it was not puss in boots or Cinderella instead it was DRACULA so the normal shout of “ he’s behind you” had more importance than normal. Accompanied by Jade everyone had great time.

FUND RAISING

For the first couple of weeks of the new year the home has relaxed on the fund raising this will be until the start of February then we shall start again with sponsorship for the parachute jump, as the book on Edwina’s poem’s was a great successes we are in the process of a second edition of her poem’s and also one of several of her short stories and views on well known events. We shall also be having another hunt the treasure for the returned Bianco’s Italian Restaurant £50 meal voucher. This month the total amount of fund raising for epilepsy research UK is £562.06

MEET THE STAFF

Way back in time around 1990 a young lady called Debbie came to work for use, she was truly a hands on kind of person and we remember her fondly from those times and watched her career develop of the years. She moved to a couple of homes around Teignmouth before becoming a senior support worker at the white house the home next door and was pleased when she was offered and took the managers post there. Debbie as always been hands on, nothing please her more than helping people but oh that dreaded paper work, care plans ok but all those other things  that the manager has to soon did not look appealing and so she returned to what she is best at care work. Late last year Debbie contacted us about the vacancy and thus she returned to Ashdown. Debbie was born around London and the family soon made it’s way to the sunny south coast and made a life for herself, a few years ago the love of her life was born, Thomas is a credit to her and now there in a new man in her life, Gareth is going to make an honest woman of her at the beginning of May and we are all looking forward to the happy event. Debbie has made a great addition to our work force.
