ASHDOWN RESIDENTIAL HOME

JULY 08 PHOENIX

NEWS ISSUE 10

As reported in last months newsletter Rehanna our weekend Support Helper decided to leave to start a new life in America and that the 19th would be her last day on duty then a sudden shock Silvia informed us of her decision to try pastures new and that she would be leaving on 21st. We had been planning a surprise farewell for Rehanna when she was going to visit on the 18th as it was the only time we could get all the staff together or so she thought so adding Silvia in on the surprise was easy. When they arrived there was a spread of Subway and soft drinks and gifts for both, as Rehanna will not be able to pop in she was given 2 photographs, 1 of all the residents with her and the second of the staff she works with. We wish them both with their future endeavours.

         21 AGAIN

The years come and go but John does so enjoy his birthday. Once again Georgina produced one of her famous cakes that everyone loves, this time she changed the recipe a bit and to everyone's delight it was great.

CIMAC

At the home we have been very busy sending parcels to the people of Kabul even the residents have join in when it was explained to them, so far we are up to 15 parcels from the home as well as Tony, Dena and Beth sending one, Stuart and Edwina sending one with Courtenay Joyce, Linda and Heather sending another. If you include your name and address you will receive a letter from the CIMIC Officer thanking you for your kind gift, we at the home don't as it would mean so many letters. Remember that the Afghanistan people are the 9th poorest country and over the past years it has been ravaged by warring factions and it's the people who suffer. The Royal Mail will send a parcel weighing 2kg or less for free, so look around your wardrobe, find some things you will not wear and instead of the clothing bank this time wrap them up. Go to your local shop and tell them what you are doing see what they can give you and get some rubbers, pens and chalks whatever its surprising how much your 2kg is.

Our picture shows Captain Winchester with some of the village elders and below is the address for the parcels, they need a lot more help pass the word on to you friends.

2nd LESSON

Last year Tony enjoyed a driving session off road at West Point which was organised by PLUS the training centre he attends, as last year was a success it was decided to have another session.

 A SAD DAY

It is always a sad time but when things happen suddenly its a shock, our friend Monty the cat must have run out of lives as he left the neighbourhood after being in an accident, we shall always remember his visits when he used to come in look around and then inspect everywhere and leave. We shall never forget him and our thoughts go out to next door his owners.

SUMMERS GONE

As with previous years summer has come and gone in a blink, it was those 5 warm days from the 19th July onwards. And then the rain cometh, we got out the plans for the Ark once again and made the necessary alterations to bring it up top date

NEW TEAM MEMBERS

With the sudden departure of the  2 staff reported above we needed to take on the right people so we have employed Louise and Emma to work at weekends and then we needed the correct person to cover the other post and after a great deal of thought and consideration we employed Irene, we welcome both to Ashdown and you can read more about them in a future edition of meet the staff.
