WE ARE THANKFUL With the problems parts of the country have been having with swollen rivers and flooding we at Ashdown are very thankful we live high up over looking Teignmouth. Some people who have visited the home have said to us "any problems with the flooding" then they realise where we are and " no you should be alright. What another month it has been rain and rain with short let ups in between but it has been good weather for Pip. (see story below) |

THEY SPARKLE AND SHINE
The house was getting jaded and worn from the outside and needed a revamp, it was those gutters all peeling just did not go with our image so we called in the sparkle and shine people and on a overcast day in July, well they were all overcast the "A" team Steff and Steve arrived followed closely by the "B" team of Matt and Dave, they work on in sunshine and rain until it was all finished and so we are all sparkling and shining once again |
|
|
When one of the sparkle and shine men heard
that a resident loved animals and especially dogs he asked if we would
like him to bring in his dog Lucy as she was very friendly and the
resident might like her, Matt then arrived the next day with Lucy and
was an instant success with everyone, not sure that Lucy wanted to go
home.

THE SCAFFOLD (no not the group)
Another team arrived to put up the scaffolding, little disruption and followed our stringent rules to the letter, they even managed to put the bars up in the correct place so the house could also be painted. |
|
|
A SHOCK People around the area might have caught a glance of Dave the manager dressed in his old clothes climbing about all over the ladder painting the outside of the house and with some help it has all been completed much to the delight of the staff, it was hard going keeping the painters going with coffee. |

If anyone who is near and would like a book please contact and we shall supply, remember we do have to deliver the items though. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN On a wet sad day in July Stanny came to the office and with a tear in her eye said that as her Father had some poor health she had to leave to return to Slovakia and look after him and organise things, how long will she be gone could be between 2 and 4 months so we have give her until October unpaid hopefully by then she would have returned if not we shall have to see. but in the mean time everyone sends they love, look after yourself and hope to see you soon |
END OF TERM The new Horizon open evening was held on the 10th of July with certificates going to Edwina, Beth, Tony and Dena for Drama, Keep Fit, Communication, Craft Work, well done to you all. |
|
|
SKYPE What an invention the internet has been, we are able to look things up, send e-mails to people even publish newsletters like this and then comes Skype a great way to keep in touch with people far and wide, and then mid July Tony was asked to come to the office and sit in the big black boss chair and next thing he knew was his sister Coleen from South Africa was on the screen in front of him, shame it was a very over cast day and wireless communication meant a poor line but they had a short chat and he said he is looking forward to the next one. |

WE MADE IT AT LAST The sun was shining but how long for was it 5 or 10 minutes or could we take a chance and hope it would be longer, who was in lets go and off to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary we went in the capable hands of Jack and George. When they arrived they were shown around the yard and the stables and someone talked about the horse and foals that were there, everyone made friends with the horses and they were just about to walk down to the paddocks to see some more when it was decided to venture down to Labrador bay for an ice cream, everyone enjoyed this part and would like to re-visit the paddocks.

MEET THE STAFF
Well this is our Philippa, whoop sorry Pip as she likes to be called only young and so long as she does not get distracted by the high life of shelf stacking or pole dancing by early signs she has a good carer in care in front of her. Being brought up in this area does help, firstly from Torquay and surrounding areas to now live on a farm. It is not un-heard of for Pip to ring and say she might be a few minutes late as the pigs have got out. In fact she was late for her interview due to that very reason. The farm has chickens and ducks as well as pigs and sheep, only a few of each, she delights us all with her pictures of fluffy ducks which she has named. She is a bit worried about the recent foot and mouth problems but we have told her that she will be fine just keep visiting the dentist and chiropodist. Currently she is undertaking her NVQ 2 which she is doing well in. Her hobbies include shopping and running with the Hash House Harriers and this year she went on a dream of a life time when she crewed a tall ship. As for her future well who knows but so long as she keeps going as she is, she will achieve it. Energetic and lively most days, creative and dextrous are some of her attributes, we are trying to persuade her to do something for charity like running in to the sea on boxing day or a parachute jump, what this space for the next adventure. |
