ROAD SHOW The annual Learning Disabilities road show was held during the month at Newton Abbot race course ground and as usual some of the staff and residents attended to show their support, as soon as they arrived the search went out for one particular stall dealing with eye care as Edwina had been chosen to be the face on the publicity poster so after a few minutes the stall was found and several pictures taken. Then it was a look at the other stall which were being sponsored by lots of different people including Plus and the Dawlish Garden Trust, while everyone was walking around they bumped into old friends from far and wide but the biggest hit was waiting outside. Devon and Cornwall Police Authority had on site a police car with a stall behind where everyone could have there finger prints taken and a certificate given, a copy of which will be e-mailed or delivered by hand to the attending residents family in the near future. The is was hat trying on time which one particular resident delved into with great glee as she likes hats and when she found the coat, helmet and truncheon she was in her element. A police officer spent time talking to us and it was at this point we realised that the police had a new recruit as Beth had sat herself behind the wheel of the car and nothing would move her until the arrival of another police vehicle with a police dog. As the pictures show everyone had a great time.

FUND RAISING The fund raising is progressing and at present we are taking it easy waiting for the final push . The large rabbit was won by from The White House. All the other events have now wound down, we will be aiming for a raffle at the beginning of August which will be drawn in September, some of the events and activities have not gone as well as expected and at the moment early predictions means we shall fail in reaching our target record, at this moment we have raised by various means £816.17 that's eight hundred and sixteen pounds and seventeen pence, we realise it's credit crunch time and everyone is watching their pennies so let us watch them instead. This is all for a very worthy charity so come on, if everyone just sent say £5 per family member cheques made payable to epilepsy research UK then we shall make it and the home has promised after September no more fund raising for at least 6 months We are always looking for ways to raise money for the charity and if anyone has idea's please mail us or you could always give a donation. PLEASE HELP US BEAT OUR RECORD JUST GIVE US A DONATION

CONGRATULATIONS We would also like to offer our congratulations to the following for completing and passing distance learning courses Judy for passing Basic Emergency Aid, Principles of Moving and Handling. Jade has almost finished her NVQ level 2 in Care and should be finished within the next month, as with Katarina she has passed this in record time. We have asked if she will undertake her level 3 as her assessor and staff at the home now she will not have any problems in doing this, as of yet we have not had a reply that we could print. We have also asked Silvia who left last year if now she has returned she will finish her NVQ level 3 as she had almost completed it, we are waiting for a English reply as we are not able to understand Slovakian, Jade and Silvia both have it in them to complete the level 3 easily. |
