YOUNG AT HEART

The old saying you are as old as you feel certainly applies to young Joyce who was being as helpful as normal despite celebrating her 80th birthday, the day started slowly with Joyce saying " people are saying it's my birthday is it" then she enjoyed telling everybody and everyone that it was her birthday and after the 15th singing of the song Happy Birthday everybody was aware. although the day there was games laughing and singing with even some dancing and then a wonderful party tea with a big chocolate cake that Georgina had made with a new recipe and extra chocolate and everyone decided that she can make this one again. After a second piece of cake Joyce settled back to a relaxing evening with her 2 best friends not sure of who had to hold.

 MEET THE STAFF

And to our newest member of staff Jade who originally come from the far depths of Leicester where she grow up and went to school until about 8 years ago Jade and her mother decided to strike out for pastures new to the wonderful area we know as the English Riviera and they settled in picturesque Teignmouth. After going to the local school and South Devon College she started to work in a hairdressers as an assistant yet early this year the shop closed and unfortunately for Jade she was made redundant but the hairdressing industry loss was our gain, Jade come for her interview and our impression was could she handle the trials and tribulations of the care industry, she quickly dispelled any worries with her enthusiasm. She completed her induction training and has already started her distance course, she has already signed up with Acacia Training to start her NVQ level to In Care. With her caring attitude and abilities it looks like a bright future for Jade.

A POEM CALLED DAWLISH GARDENS by Edwina Burrows

The Dawlish Gardens centre, Is right out at Port Row, It is a busy centre, Where many people go.

It's run by Ian Harris, He has a lot of time, To teach us about gardening, Then there is Kerti Syme.

Who teaches some folk English, And also lots of maths, She does this for Bicton, Exams we sometimes pass.

But sometimes we do fail, These by just one mark, So we have extra study, This folk is not a lark.

We have a keep fit programme, Of walks and riding bikes, Some afternoons we do this, But sometimes Ian likes.

Us to do plant work, That we have to get done, For Nigel up at Bournemouth, We all work in the sun.

When we first worked at Langdon, I was hard at work, Packing eggs into boxes, I had no time to shirk.

I also counted flowers, Into piles of ten, And put a band around them, So that they would then.

Be ready to be sold at, The farm shop we once had, But that has all been sold now, And that has made me sad.

We go to Haldon forest, As part of our keep fit, Some people ride their push bikes, And others do a bit.

Of walking through the woodlands, And looking at the view, We are so very busy, There's such a lot to do.

We finish off our exams, In the middle of June, When are exams are over, Will the results come soon.

We spend the summer working, Outside in God's fresh air, Hoeing planting and weeding, Will the weather be fair.

For the 5th September, Which is our open day, I hope people remember, And come the farm trust way.

At Christmas time we do have, That dinner Nigel's cooked, We eat this in the greenhouse, People come and look.

WE then do have a month off, To have a holiday, I do not know what happens, When we are away.

This then folks is what takes place, At Dawlish Garden Trust, I hope you like my poem, But now I really must.

Finish my little poem, That's all I have to say, But if you want to know more, Attend our open day.

SAD DAY

In the caring industry we have joyful days and we have sad day and a couple of months ago one of our staff suggested to us she might leave, yeh yeh heard that before, seen that done that brought the T Shirt as the saying goes. Then during May Rehanna our kitchen helper at week ends confirmed that her last day of work will be the 19th July as she will be moving to America, we did say she could carry on working but she decided that it was a little bit far to travel. Rehanna has been with us for almost 3 years and she is an integral part of our team, always smiling, happy and she also makes a great cup of coffee. How will we find a replacement?. She will be missed by all the staff and residents.
