STILL NO NEWS There still has been no news of our inspection report and we are all waiting with baited breath, on checking the CSCI web site for time reference it does say around 8 weeks from the time of inspection is normal. So we shall wait and see.

SHIP AHOY On a brisk November morning the intrepid few went on a mini cruise to St Malo, Edwina, Dena, Beth and Tony were accompanied by Jade and Georgina. After catching the coach from Newton Abbot and transferring to another they drove down to Portsmouth to catch the ferry across to St Malo, the English channel was as smooth as a mill pond and the crossing overnight was great and everyone had a good night sleep, some better that others as Jade and Georgina could not afford to oversleep as breakfast was early so the whole day could be ashore. once they had set foot ashore on solid ground Edwina tried her French on the locals and said "Bonjour" to everyone they met. St Malo was a feast of activities and slender which can only be associated with French hospitality yet there was a lot of walking involved and the historic walled city was wonderful. The cruise back was as smooth as the crossing. Everyone had a great time.

LONG TIME NO SEE A few months ago we reported on a visitor, a white cat who came in and introduced himself to everyone and on looking at his tab on his collar it said "I am Deaf" we all thought at that time what a strange name for a cat. During the middle of the month he came visiting again, he walked around the house sat and talked to everyone and then his owner turned up from across the road and we found out his name is CLYDE, well Clyde is welcome at anytime.

A GARDEN VISITOR During the early part of the month while talking in the office Jade leapt in to the air as something had crossed her sight line in the garden we all thought she was seeing things but there he was a hedgehog, still quite young looking for his way home.

EXPERIENCE We have recently been contacted by 2 people from Torquay Grammar School who wanted to undertake some work experience at the home, both live locally and both would like to go in to medicine after their schooling, Jane and Andrew are coming every Wednesday afternoon and will be watching and trying to understand how the home is run and how we help the residents. They are also helping 2 of the residents undertake a course and then play games or general socialising.

NOT 21 AGAIN It was November, chilly and dark but Courtenay enjoyed another birthday, and as the picture shows he enjoyed the cakes best of all.

FUND RAISING The fund raising has been slow but strong and by the measure you can see it's well on the way, we have already started a few of the silent auctions. The mat / rug has made a very slow start and has had no bids as yet, if no bids are received soon we shall withdraw it until later in the year, this is a lovely soft rug / mat of excellent size and texture and is a modern design. We are most surprised that the round of golf for 4 people has had no offers as yet, this prizes can be taken at any time and St Pierre at Chepstow is a great championship course and playing it in spring is a challenge, come on you golfers this offer is worth over £200 so its a great extra Christmas present. The set of 5 golf lesson at Teignmouth has had the most response with bids coming in all over the place. We have started to collect your empty ink cartridges from your printers, the company gives us a very small amount for these but every cartridge is worth its weight in gold and these can either be handed in at the home or sent direct to ink2u.co.uk Recycling Centre. FREEPOST NATW 1512. Taunton. TA3 7ZA.with a note saying credit Ashdown Residential Home, Woodway Road, Teignmouth, Devon, TQ148QB. The winner of the Bianco's voucher as reported in last months issue was Carol Halliday and through her kindness she has returned the voucher to us so that we can use it again and profit from this will be divide 2 ways between our cause and Carol's cause Springboard for Children. The bear who has forgotten his name might not be able to remember it in time as the spaces are going slow and if nobody guess the name we might have to supply board and lodging over the Christmas period. We have had several donations to start the ball rolling and The Teignmouth Pier Company, Toni and Peter King and Frog Island Brewery all will be donating something next year yet we have not heard from some people about a donation. You can also buy the raffle tickets by e-mail or post just pledge the money, send it in an envelope and the staff will choose the numbers then sit back relax and hope to win To pledge a donation to Captain Winchester and her parachute jump you can either send a cheque to the home with a not informing what it is for, cheques payable to Ashdown Residents Account or Epilepsy Research UK yet for ease we have set up a just giving site www.justgiving.com/elizabethwinchester To pledge a donation for the raffle, games and events or just give because you agree with what we are doing www.justgiving.com/ashdown Another member of staff has said pledge to undertake a sponsored swim with her partner at some time by completing lengths at the local pool which will be equal to the distance between 2 places, we are hoping for the English channel but we shall be happy with Teignmouth to Dawlish or a lap of the M25 but thanks Keith and Stanislava for your support.

NEW BUT NOT SO NEW After looking for a replacement for our vacancy we received a call from an ex member of staff who last worked for us in the 1990's and since then gone on to do bigger and better things. Now with her son and partner she wanted a change of direction back to the things she likes, the hands on side. As she only wanted a few hours things were adjusted to suit so with all her experience I am sure she Debbie will be an asset to the home and a great addition to the team. |
