RECORD TOTAL

As reported in last month's newsletter our fund raising efforts in aid of Epilepsy Research UK have come to an end and we are very proud to report that the home raised a record amount of

£1108.01

Don't worry everyone we are already thinking about the next fund raising so keep checking back to see who we will be raising funds for next, Edwina is already chomping at the bit to get at your money.

SAD NEWS

During the month we heard that Gina the District Nurses was being moved to Dawlish for 6 months, over the last year Gina has built up a special bond with the residents. The residents require stability in there life and when ever Gina called in once to three times a week they look on her as a friend not the district nurse and this is what is needed, she gave out advice and learnt all our little ways, so we shall be writing a letter to the powers in charge at the hospital and now we shall have to train a new district nurse.

CHECKING IT OUT

The caravan that we will be able to hire as well as yourselves is situated at Perran Sands near Perranporth Cornwall. as it is on a site it has to be empty for so many months a years so rates are not charged and thus it is closed from 1st November to 28th February. Recently Edwina wanted to see if she could make the steps and what the sight was like and as we were taking Stuart to see his family we detoured and had a look and also looked at Perranporth nearby.

FAMILY

If there is one thing that is important in life it's family and whether they live near or far it's great to keep in touch, Stuart will ring his brothers on a regular basis just for a quick "hello" so as we had to go down that way we noticed we would be passing both of his brothers Ralph and Tom's homes, so on a damp Wednesday morning we set off and as we left Devon the sun started to shine, we arrived at Mithian and were met by Ralph and Joan and Stuart settled down for a chat while we carried on with our appointments then he was collected and we drove up to Holsworthy where he was met by Tom and Barbara and later on Angela his niece called in. Stuart was reported as being in great form and only ended up with a dry throat from talking so much so we feel sorry for the donkey as Stuart talked the hind legs of it.

Of course not to be out done Edwina needed to get in on the act as well so as Stuart was talking to Angela and Barbara she turned her attention to Tom

TEACHING SIGNING

As signing is being used in a lot more areas today it was decided that staff and residents should understand some of the more basic ones from man, woman and old (why they kept pointing at Dave for old we have no idea) to walking, toilet and car, our picture shows Dena teaching Silvia, Tony, Beth, John and Sarah the word swimming.

Although it does look like Silvia is doing her impersonation of a flamingo

THE QUESTION

We have often wondered about the big question the one that has stumped some of the great minds and that is how many people can you fit on a double mattress, for health and safety reasons the mattress was taken of the bed as it was risk assessed and from the picture you will see the answer is 1 x cook, 1 x senior support worker, 1 x support worker and 1 resident.

When Georgina, Jackie, Jade and Beth had had there 40 winks Dave explained he would need the whole mattress and Beth decided that it was time for fun,
