WAITING WITH BAITED BREATH

On a warm September morning Tony was up early so he would not miss his visit from his birth mother, Aunty Sandra and his brother Pierre all of which he had not seen for sometime, he had prepared before hand with flowers and chocolates and so he waited.

Every time the door bell rang he jumped hoping and then just around mid day they arrived and what a day he had, firstly in to town for a meal, then along the sea front for a well deserved ice cream.

After they returned Tony introduced them to everyone and he received gifts from Cyprus, while they all enjoyed a cup of tea with the management Pierre decided to chat to all the other residents and staff and especially with Jade, as the pictures show Tony had a great day and so did Pierre.

SURPRISE VISIT

Early in the month Heather had a surprise when Cousin Judy arrived all the way from Scotland and she enjoyed herself visiting some of her old haunts as well as Babbacombe, the highlight being chips and the dog. They also visited Jacks patch where a Heather was purchased for her room.

CONGRATULATIONS

As the weather during  August was up to British standards of rain, rain and more rain some of the staff got down to some of the distance courses and as the list below shows they were very busy and on a lighter note one of our staff who is on holiday decided to take a couple of courses with her in case she needs something to do, there commitment for you. Well done everyone for passing.

Irene passed the Health and Safety and  POVA  while Georgina passed the Mental Capacity Act.

FORTH COMING EVENTS

Christmas Party = December 12th

MOTHER CHRISTMAS

I have been informed by Mother Christmas that she will be making an appearance at the Christmas party and she has told Santa that she will not be at home on Christmas morning to make his Toast and orange juice she will instead be visiting the home again around 9.30am

 FUND RAISING

Once again Ashdown will be looking at raising funds for a worthwhile cause and after looking at our past work and who we could raise for this time, everyone in the home looked at the possibilities and after dismissing the send the boss to Spain and new golf clubs for the boss, it was everyone's opinion that it should be something to do with the home and after much discussion it was decided that Epilepsy Research UK would be good as we have 2 clients who suffer from it and we all know someone who suffers also so what better cause. They have been contacted and welcome or fund raising efforts but the question is how, would anyone volunteer for a parachute jump, abseil or a bungee jump or are we looking at something new to try. Biancos Italian Restaurant in Torquay was contacted and the owner promised that he would give a £50 meal voucher for worthy cause. In the next few weeks other people will be contacted for donations these will include Stephens Wheeler Solicitors, Teignmouth Golf Club, Frog Island Brewery, Bishop Fleming Accountants and Teignmouth Pier Company to name just a few.

The fund raising will go on until 14th of September 2009 when it will be the 20th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Rogers owning Ashdown, we caught up with Mr. Rogers who said " the last 19 plus years have been enjoyable and so over the last few years through fund raising we have been able to give something back, as its our 20th we decided that fund raising over a longer period will bring in added funding and hopefully pass our record amount". Ashdown is open to anyone who has ideas on fund raising or would like to do something for us. Watch this space for news of how it is going.

We have a map of the local area which has been ruled off in to squares and each square will cost 50 pence and the winning square will win the £50 voucher. If you would like a square call in and help us, if you live further away then send a Cheque for say £5 made payable to Ashdown and we will enter a percentage in to each of the next few draws, so be lucky and help us.

Future fund raising will be Guess the weight of the cake, Coffee and Tea stall,  Sponsored Walk,, Raffle and more Treasure Maps and don't forget if any of you wish to donate a prize they will all be gratefully accepted.
